Volkswagen Halves Production Capacity and Model Lineup in Historic Overhaul

Volkswagen's Executive Board announced on July 9 plans to cut annual production capacity to 9 million vehicles from a pre-COVID high of 12 million, and reduce its model lineup by 50 percent—the largest structural reorganization in the company's 89-year history. The company also plans to cut equipment complexity by 75 percent.
