Opera Introduces WebAI, a Web Standard for Running AI Models Locally in the Browser

Opera has introduced WebAI, a web standard that lets websites run AI models locally in the browser without cloud servers, TechCrunch reported on October 27, 2026. It works with models including Google's Gemma and, on Macs, Apple's on-device foundation model. Opera says performance depends on device hardware. It is an early preview in Opera One, opt-in only.
