Meta Disables Ray-Ban Camera on Tampered Privacy LED

Meta announced in July 2026 that it will push a firmware update disabling the camera on Ray-Ban smart glasses if the device detects physical tampering with or destruction of the privacy LED. The move targets modders who drill out the LED housing to record without a visible indicator. Meta's second-generation glasses already prompt users to uncover a blocked recording light; this update escalates to hardware-level camera kill. Reports of women being filmed without consent by people using modified glasses prompted the change.
