EU Mandates Driver Distraction Monitoring in All New Cars, July 7

From July 7, 2026, every new vehicle type approved for the EU market must include Advanced Driver Distraction Warning (ADDW) systems—in-cabin cameras tracking gaze and eyelid behavior to flag inattention. The mandate, part of Regulation (EU) 2019/2144, covers passenger cars and commercial vehicles. The Commission projects the requirement will save over 25,000 lives by 2038. Automakers and suppliers must achieve type-approval compliance by the deadline or face a sales ban.
