UK caps overseas donations at £100,000 annually, blocking repeat of Reform's billionaire fundraising

Communities Secretary Steve Reed has announced a £100,000 annual cap on donations from British citizens living abroad, extended to new UK residents for their first year. Christopher Harborne, a Thailand-based billionaire, gave £12m to Reform UK in 2025 alone. The government is introducing these restrictions as amendments to the Representation of the People Bill, returning to Commons on 14 July, alongside a cryptocurrency donation ban and tighter corporate-giving rules.
