Google Messages will add opt-in "enhanced protection" in the coming weeks. Cloud-based Gemini models will evaluate scammer intent across conversations with unrecognized senders, augmenting on-device detection to identify novel and sophisticated attacks. Google says analyzed data is encrypted and processed in a secure dedicated space inaccessible to Google and others besides the user.
