North East Premier League Match Abandoned After Bull Escapes Onto Field
An 800kg juvenile bull escaped a farm near Newcastle and travelled roughly a mile to Burnopfield Cricket Club's outfield on 4 July, forcing the abandonment of a North East Premier League fixture. The animal charged at players and farmers attempting to recapture it, striking one (not seriously injured). Police responded; the bull eventually departed on its own. Burnopfield were second in the league standings when play halted.
