Cardinal Tagle to Lead Papal Audience as Pope Leo Has Lung Surgery

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle will lead Wednesday's weekly papal audience as Pope Leo XIV, 71, is hospitalized at Rome's Gemelli hospital for surgery to remove a small, early-detected lung nodule. The Vatican called the procedure low-risk and cancelled papal appointments until 20 October. Tagle, from the Philippines, is dean of the College of Cardinals.
