National and Labour pledge independent unit to cost election policies
National and Labour have pledged in their fiscal plans to set up an independent unit to cost election policies, RNZ reported on 12 October 2026. National budgeted $1.2 million every three years, Labour $6 million a year for an "independent pricing authority". The aim is to curb claims of fiscal holes and uncosted promises.
