Chrétien and Harper unite to restore vacant prime ministerial residence

Former Prime Ministers Jean Chrétien and Stephen Harper will co-chair a public fundraising campaign to renovate 24 Sussex Drive, unoccupied since 2015. The Rideau Hall Foundation is seeking $50 million in private donations from Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Prime Minister Mark Carney committed the government to cover security costs. A formal campaign launch is set for early fall, with the Royal Architectural Institute running a design competition.
