South Sudan government says 71 killed in Rumbek intercommunal clashes
Approximately 71 people were killed in intercommunal clashes in Rumbek town, Lakes State, early Friday, South Sudan's caretaker government said. The interim Information Ministry cautioned the toll is unverified. Authorities say government forces hold the town and are working to restore normalcy. Rumbek has seen repeated clashes among Dinka sub-clans this year, UN reports show.
