Australia's Hospitality Sector Must Disclose Seafood Origin from 1 July 2026
Starting 1 July 2026, Australian restaurants, cafés, and pubs must label seafood as A (Australian), I (imported), or M (mixed origin) — a requirement that extends country-of-origin disclosure to foodservice for the first time. Retail packaged seafood already carried such labels; the mandate closes the gap that previously allowed hospitality venues to serve imported product without disclosure. State enforcement agencies now hold jurisdiction over compliance.
