July 2026 was England's worst month for wildfires on record

Provisional government data published 8 October 2026 recorded 624 wildfires in England in July 2026, the highest monthly total on record. The January-August total reached 1,354, already the second-worst year. Summer 2026 was the UK's hottest on record in provisional Met Office data, with 40 days above 30C.
