Two major earthquakes strike Venezuela in 39 seconds, killing at least 32

A 7.2 magnitude foreshock and 7.5 magnitude mainshock struck Venezuela on June 24, 2026, 39 seconds apart near Yumare, 23 kilometers southeast in Yaracuy state. The rapid succession amplified ground motion beyond what either event alone would have caused. At least 32 people died and roughly 700 were injured. The shaking was felt across the country, including Caracas, 350 kilometers away. Over 302 aftershocks followed by June 26.
