Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez was due to make an "institutional declaration" on 5 October 2026 amid speculation about a snap election centred on housing. Next general election had been due in 2027, after parliament rejected emergency tenant protections on 2 October and tens of thousands protested on 3 October.
