French PM holds crisis meeting as school protests spread nationwide

Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu held a crisis meeting Oct. 1 and canceled ministers' trips as high-school blockades spread across France. Students are protesting teacher shortages, overcrowded classrooms and run-down buildings. Blockades that began last week now affect hundreds of schools, with universities joining Oct. 1. The government said protests descended into "urban violence."
