High Court rules floodplain homes can proceed despite failing safety test

The High Court has ruled homes in England and Wales can be built on floodplains even when they fail the sequential test for flood risk. The decision preserves Persimmon Homes' outline permission for 190 homes in Yatton, North Somerset, on flood zone 3a land. Wider benefits and lifetime safety can outweigh the failure, the court held.
