87-year-old Maricarmen Abascal evicted from Madrid home of 71 years

Maricarmen Abascal, 87, was evicted 23 September 2026 from her Retiro, Madrid flat where she had lived 71 years. The judicial commission acted on the fourth attempt, and she left on a stretcher for an ambulance. Her father first rented the property in 1956. Hundreds gathered outside to try to block the eviction.
