South Sudan dissolves unity government ahead of first elections

South Sudan President Salva Kiir dissolved the transitional unity government on Sept. 22, ending the 2018 power-sharing deal. The order removes vice-presidents, ministers and assemblies while courts and security forces stay. A caretaker administration will govern until Dec. 22, when South Sudan holds its first-ever national elections.
