MBIE confirms $50.7m lost on failed immigration biometric upgrades

MBIE chief executive Nic Blakely told MPs at a select committee hearing on 22 September that $50.7m of taxpayer money was lost on failed Immigration NZ biometric upgrades. According to MBIE, $42m for the Biometric Capability Upgrade is written off, with ministers recommended to write off $8.7m more for associated In Person Enrolment work. Up from $33m previously advised.
