Cuba suffers nationwide blackout after grid's total failure

Cuba's entire electricity grid suffered a "total disconnection" Friday afternoon, leaving millions without power, the energy ministry said. Grid operator UNE said the failure began just before 2 p.m. local time and blamed a transmission fault plus poor weather in central Cuba. Priority circuits in Havana were restored by evening; wider restoration continued Saturday.
