EU invites Canada to become associate member

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen invited Canada to become an associate member of the European Union in her State of the Union speech in Strasbourg on Wednesday. Prime Minister Mark Carney addressed the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Thursday, pitching a broad alliance. Carney has said Canada will decide on its own partnerships.
