Uber Ordered to Pay $40 Million Over Freeway Death of 23-Year-Old Passenger

Uber was ordered to pay $40 million to parents of Emily Normandin-Parker, 23, killed in August 2023 after an Uber driver stopped on the 73 freeway in Orange County. She had vomited in the car; while her friend and the driver argued over a cleaning fee, she exited and was struck in traffic. Arbitrator Richard Stone found Uber vicariously liable.
