Qantas Project Sunrise: Direct Sydney–London and Sydney–New York routes without connections
Qantas is modifying Airbus A350 aircraft under Project Sunrise to fly non-stop for up to 22 hours, enabling direct service from Sydney to both London Heathrow and New York JFK—routes that currently require connections. A 20,000-litre rear centre fuel tank extends the aircraft's range beyond standard widebody specifications, a technical approach Airbus previously used on the A340-500HGW. Success hinges on premium fares offsetting higher unit costs from fewer passengers per flight.
