Burke targets net migration of 225,000 over two years

Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke told the National Press Club he wants net overseas migration at 225,000 over two years. Bureau of Statistics data put it at 292,000 in the year to March; the May budget forecast 245,000 for 2026-27. The number gives Labor cover, but ballots and visa rules will decide if it lands.
