Burke rejects farmers' warning visa curbs will raise food prices

Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke rejected farmers' warnings that Labor's immigration overhaul will lift food prices. National Farmers Federation chief Mike Guerin predicted labour shortages would disrupt harvest before Christmas. Burke, unveiling reforms on 17 September, pointed to Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme workers as alternative. Faster first-year backpacker processing was also promised.
