Meta Kept False AI Video of Scottish Politician Online Without Disclosure

Meta left online a realistic synthetic video falsely depicting a Scottish politician saying "refugees are welcome here, even if they rape our women, because white people do that too." The Oversight Board said Sept. 17, 2026 it should have been removed for hateful conduct and labeled as AI. Meta had kept it up absent trusted-partner flagging and self-disclosure.
