Shadow chancellor Andrew Griffith urged Chancellor John Healey to rule out tax rises in the budget in a small-business speech on 17 September 2026. Griffith, appointed just over two weeks earlier, also tasked Craig Mackinlay and Robert Colvile with a deregulation review. Healey, under pressure to raise billions, declined to discuss tax policy ahead of the budget.
