EU Invites Canada to Work Toward First Associate Membership

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen invited Canada to work toward becoming the EU's first associate member, endorsing Prime Minister Mark Carney's proposal. Von der Leyen invited Carney to join her in Strasbourg and said the two sides would build on their CETA free-trade agreement with a broader "Alliance for the Future."
