New records detail delays and denials in Medicare AI authorization pilot

The Electronic Frontier Foundation on Sept. 8, 2026 published records it says show widespread delays and denials of care and operational chaos in the WISeR Model. WISeR stands for Wasteful and Inappropriate Service Reduction. CMS says the pilot will test artificial intelligence for prior authorization in Original Medicare. The key test is whether faster reviews survive appeal.
