U.S. inflation held at 3.4% in August

U.S. consumer prices rose 3.4% in the year to August, unchanged from July, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Sept. 11. Prices rose 0.4% on the month. Inflation — the pace at which money loses buying power — remains persistent, squeezing borrowers and forcing savers to earn above 3.4% to preserve purchasing power.
