Beneficiaries left with $251 a week after housing, MSD report says

Beneficiaries have an average $251 a week left after housing costs, according to a Ministry of Social Development report reported by RNZ. The inflation-adjusted figure is down from $262 in 2024. Rent or mortgage took 48% of income on average, with average income before housing at $486 a week.
