Bundibugyo Ebola has no approved vaccine, eliminating a proven containment tool

The DRC's Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak, confirmed at 515 cases by June 6, lacks a matching vaccine. The only available Ebola vaccine protects against Ebola virus, not Bundibugyo. Candidate vaccines remain in development. This absence forecloses ring vaccination—the strategy that contained recent EBOV epidemics. The outbreak now enters its operationally hardest phase without this critical tool.
