Free NHL broadcasts end in Canada as Rogers Drops CBC
CBC's sublicensing arrangement with Rogers Sportsnet ended June 16, 2026, concluding 28 years of Hockey Night in Canada on public television. Rogers, which holds exclusive broadcast rights through 2037–38, has no commercial incentive to share inventory with a free-to-air partner. Cord-cutters and rural viewers without cable or streaming access lose the over-the-air option CBC provided. Sportsnet and Amazon now control the distribution, both behind paywalls.
