Australia Sues Burger Chain for Overstating Donation Pledges
Australia's consumer watchdog filed Federal Court proceedings against Grill'd on 15 June for allegedly misleading customers about its 'Tree Day Tuesday' program. The chain advertised A$1 donations per burger toward tree planting but passed on only a portion of that sum. The ACCC alleges the conduct, spanning January 2021 to April 2024, deprived consumers of informed purchasing decisions. The regulator does not need to prove intent—only that claims were capable of misleading reasonable consumers.
