Mike Duncan, who represented Porirua City Council's Onepoto ward for a decade, has died suddenly. No cause has been publicly confirmed. Mayor Anita Baker said the news had "come as a shock to all." The council now faces decisions on filling the vacant seat through by-election or appointment, depending on the time remaining in the 2025–2028 electoral term.
