Largest-ever HRT study links therapy to 10–16% lower dementia risk in postmenopausal women
The largest observational study of HRT and dementia risk, tracking 183,450 UK postmenopausal women over 13 years, found HRT use for at least one year was associated with a 10% lower risk of any dementia and 16% lower Alzheimer's risk versus non-users. Published in Alzheimer's & Dementia on 26 August 2026, the study cannot prove causation; HRT users had higher education levels than non-users, a noted limitation.
