Snapchat Now Overrides User Age to Force Under-16 Accounts Private

Snapchat announced June 10 it will automatically reclassify any user it determines to be under 16 into friends-only mode, regardless of the age entered at signup. The platform uses undisclosed behavioral and technical signals to make that determination. Unlike privacy toggles users can adjust, the enforcement is mandatory and opaque—Snap has not disclosed how accurately it identifies minors or what happens when the classifier misfires on adults.
