Building Codes Keep Garages Unconditioned by Design — Electronics Suffer the Consequence
US state and local building codes deliberately exclude garages from climate-controlled ductwork to prevent carbon monoxide and combustion gases from migrating into living spaces. That safety-driven design leaves garages unregulated in temperature and humidity, making them inherently hostile to stored electronics. Uninsulated garages can run 10 to 18 degrees hotter than outside air, accelerating lithium-ion battery aging and corrosion of circuit contacts.
