Overseas Operators Pose as Albertans in Separatist Facebook Groups

A CBC News investigation published 9 June 2026 identified more than a dozen Facebook accounts operated from India, Pakistan, and Indonesia, posing as Albertans inside the province's most active separatism communities. Several accounts engaged in persona hijacking — stealing profile details, photographs, and posts from real users to amplify separatist narratives while obscuring the foreign origin of the activity.
