Three-Quarters of England in Flash Drought, 27 Million Under Water Restrictions
The National Drought Group reports 71.3% of England is in a "flash drought" — roughly 45 million people, with over 27 million facing water use restrictions. England saw its driest July since 1836, just 6.5mm of rain. Chair Tony Grayling said conditions will worsen until "significant and sustained rainfall" occurs. The group warned of this risk back in October 2025.
