Colombia's new president leads earthquake response two days after taking office
A 7.4-magnitude quake killed over 70 across western Colombia on 10 August. President Abelardo de la Espriella, sworn in just two days earlier, flew to Bogotá to lead the response before his cabinet or emergency protocols are fully in place. Six airports sustained damage, complicating relief to cities including Cali, Pereira, and Quibdó.
