Ford to launch free AI assistant for 8 million owners, no subscription required
Ford is rolling out an AI-powered assistant chatbot to its Ford and Lincoln mobile apps starting in the first half of 2026, targeting 8 million owners in waves. The assistant will be free — not behind a subscription or paywall. Linked to each customer's specific vehicle, it can answer questions from the owner's manual, surface live telemetry, and assess payload capacity from uploaded photos. An in-vehicle voice assistant is planned for 2027. Ford's decision to forgo a paywall is notable given the auto industry's broader shift toward subscription models for connected services.
