León and Cociña's 'Donkey Princess' premieres in Locarno competition

Chilean stop-motion directors Cristóbal León and Joaquín Cociña premiered their third feature, 'Donkey Princess,' in the international competition at the Locarno Film Festival, Variety reported on 9 August 2026. The film transplants a 17th-century Charles Perrault tale into contemporary urban Chile. It reteams the directors with writer Alejandra Moffat from 'The Wolf House.' Bendita Film Sales handles international rights.
