Mawdsley out of European Championships after hamstring tear ends breakthrough season

Sharlene Mawdsley has withdrawn from the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham after a hamstring tear sustained at the Irish national championships on 25 July. The Newport AC sprinter, who turns 28 on the opening day, had set four personal bests in 2026. She said she had "pushed the limits" to be fit but was "so sad" to miss the start line.
