Srijit Mukherji to film Satyajit Ray's making of 'Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne'

Srijit Mukherji will direct 'Maharaja Tomare Selam,' chronicling Satyajit Ray's effort to bring his 1969 fantasy 'Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne' to screen against a politically charged Kolkata. Jeetu Kamal, who played a Ray-modeled character in 'Aparajito,' leads the cast. Hoichoi Studios and Friends Communication produce with Piyali Films, the original's producer. Principal photography begins January 2027, Variety reports.
