Sturgill Simpson joins Black Keys on stage in Nashville for first documented collaboration with Dan Auerbach

Sturgill Simpson, performing as Johnny Blue Skies, joined The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney unannounced at Nashville's the Pinnacle on 6 August 2026 for a near seven-minute cover of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine." Rolling Stone reports it was their first documented on-stage collaboration despite years of rumoured ties. "Mutiny After Midnight" was recorded at Auerbach's Easy Eye Studios.
