North Sydney Olympic Pool reopens four years late, $122m bill a record for an Australian public pool

The North Sydney Olympic Pool reopened on 7 August 2026 after five years closed — four years behind its original 2022 target. The $122 million redevelopment is the most expensive public pool project in Australia's history. The 1936 art deco venue, beside Sydney Harbour Bridge, has hosted national championships and Olympic trials. Mayor Zoë Baker opposed the cost from the outset.
