Vishal Bhardwaj developing Rashomon-style film on the Tarun Tejpal rape case

Vishal Bhardwaj confirmed to Variety on 7 August 2026 that he is developing a "Rashomon"-style film on the Tarun Tejpal rape case. The Bombay High Court convicted Tejpal on 6 August, overturning a 2021 acquittal. Bhardwaj told Variety the contradiction between the two rulings from the same evidence is his creative catalyst. He is producing alongside an unnamed Bollywood studio.
