'My Father's Kora' to World Premiere at Locarno Open Doors on 9 August

Beninese director Aymar Esse's documentary "My Father's Kora" world-premieres at Locarno's Open Doors on 9 August 2026 (Variety). The 88-minute Benin-Switzerland-Germany co-production follows an Afro-German trans man travelling to Dakar to repair his father's kora, a West African stringed instrument tied to the griot tradition. Open Doors has focused on 42 African countries since 2025.
